Hillary is winning over Latinos: Here's why

Hillary Clinton has been in the public eye for decades fighting for middle-class families across the country. But the constituency that has stood by her consistently are the Latino voters. Hillary has implemented strategies that almost guarantee Latino support amongst Democrats. If we begin to compare that amount of Latino outreach that both Bernie and Hillary have done, it’s clear who’s coming out on top.

Here’s why she’ll win over Latinos:

1. One of her top priorities is immigration reform which is one of the main elements that concern the typical Latino voters. As a Latina myself, I know that immigration reform will positively affect my family across the United States. Immigration reform isn’t merely another piece of her campaign platform, it’s one of the pillars.

We have to finally and once and for all fix our immigration system – this is a family issue, it’s an economic issue too, but it is at heart a family issue. -HRC

2. She’s vetting Julian Castro, U.S Secretary of Housing & Urban Development, for vice-president. This is a strategic and wise choice for many reasons. First, he’s Latino. Instant bonus for Latino voters. Second, he’s from a swing state. Hillary wants to win Texas and with more Latinos turning out to vote for her (esp. because Julian is on her ticket), it might even be a possibility. Third, he’s young. He’s hip and fresh. Bernie might be the buzz right now, but Julian is bound to be the next sensation.

3. Her Latino outreach has been off the charts. All of her social media accounts offer translations in Spanish in order to reach Latino voters. Her videos, tweets, posts are all accessible to non-English speaking voters. This is crucial to attract this constituency. Quite frankly, I don’t think I have ever seen a Bernie tweet in Spanish. Maybe I haven’t paid close enough attention.

Let’s get one thing straight. Hillary has been fighting for Latinos since she was Senator from New York. The difference now, though, is that she has put Latinos at the forefront of her campaign. That’s impactful.
