You’ve seen it on your news feeds, you’ve seen it on Twitter and you’ve seen it here. “Hillary is pandering to minority voters!”“Hillary doesn’t actually like salsa dancing, it’s only to get the Latino vote!”“Hillary doesn’t like hot sauce, she just wants the Black vote!”
At this point, I find it hilarious that Bernie supporters are trying to claim that Hillary is supposedly pandering to minority voters. It’s not pandering, it’s called outreach. It’s called reaching out to the most marginalized communities and making sure that their opinions are heard. These communities are seldom visited by people in such high positions in government and the fact that she’s making the effort is groundbreaking. Hillary is the only candidate to ever salsa dance on the campaign trail, and you know what? It makes me pretty damn happy! As a Latina, I would never vote for someone who dances for my vote. But Hillary has time and time again proven that she deserves the Latino vote. Check out my article explaining why here. From her comprehensive immigration reform proposal to her desire to preserve the DREAM act, Hillary is not just trying to get Latino votes. She’s trying to change Latino lives for the better.
I also just want to mention that if anyone thinks a Latino is going to vote for Hillary because she eats a taco and dances to “Los Hermanos Rosario,” then you’re deeply mistaken. Latinos are voting for Hillary because they believe in her message and they believe that she’ll strive to improve their lives.
So please, quit it with the lame “pandering” insults and try to get Bernie to actually do some Latino outreach that isn’t just reciting the same speech over and over again. It’s not working.
